A Korean flagged cargo ship has collided with a Taiwanese fishing vessel in the Taiwan Strait in the contentious East China Sea Region, according to reports

The 6279 gross tonnage vessel Kharis Pegasus collided with the fishing boat Shun Fa 698 approximately 22 miles off the coast of Taichung Port in the early hours of September 7, 2016.

The cargo ship reportedly fled the scene to rush to its destination of Kaohsiung despite having suffered hull and railing damage.

Earlier in August, 2016 a Greek carrier named Anangel Courage had a major collision in the East China Sea, causing it to sink.

Also in August, two Japanese product tanker vessels collided near the Keihin Port further north in the same part of the East China Sea, spilling oil into the sea.
