An anchored bulk carrier was boarded by seven armed robbers on Wednesday 24 August, 2016, according to official reports.

The incident occurred approximately five and a half nautical miles from the coast of Conakry, Guinea, and it occurred at 01:10am local time.

Technical Paper: Threat Detection and Recognition.

Two of the crew members have been beaten and taken hostage, and the incident concluded with the robbers leaving with valuables and money from crew members.

No further casualties or fatalities have been reported.

Earlier in August PTI reported that a fuel tanker had been hijacked in the Strait of Malacca, and was being held off the coast of Indonesia.

Reports indicate that piracy in the seas around Indonesia could reach the same levels as the coast of Somalia.

Two crew members were also kidnapped when pirates hijacked a containership belonging to shipping giant CMA CGM off the coast of Nigeria in June, 2016.
