Axpo, Switzerland’s largest energy producer, has completed its first LNG ship-to-ship delivery in the Port of Algeciras, expanding its bunkering operations to a second Spanish port.
The 7,500-cubic-metre (cbm) vessel Avenir Aspiration supplied around 5,000 cbm of LNG to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC)’s Mariacristina, reported Axpo.
This follows a 5,800-cbm LNG delivery to an MSC vessel in Málaga last month.
Axpo’s Head of Small-Scale LNG, Daniele Corti said: “By expanding our operations to a second port in Spain, we continue to implement Axpo’s ambitious small-scale LNG growth strategy and strengthen our presence as a reliable LNG partner.”
In August 2023, Axpo signed a 10-year deal to charter a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel, with the ship expected to begin operations in 2025. The long-term arrangement was negotiated with Gas and Heat SpA in Italy and the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard, both of which are leaders in cryogenic storage and vessel adaptations.
In recent news, AD Ports Group hosted its first ship-to-ship (STS) liquified natural gas (LNG) bunkering operation at its flagship deep-water Khalifa Port.
The STS operation was executed in accordance with international practices and regulatory standards, including LNG bunkering protocols and guidelines set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Association of Ports and Harbors, the International Organization for Standardization, and the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators.
