Aqaba Container Terminal announces new CEO

Aqaba Container Terminal (ACT), a gateway for the Levant region and beyond, has announced the appointment of Harald Nijhof as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Nijhof will succeed Soren Jensen, who has led the firm for the past two years.

He has a distinguished career in the marine sector and brings more than 30 years of expertise and experience to the new position.

His professional career began in 1993, as a Dual-Discipline Maritime Officer at Nedlloyd.

Nijhof progressed through shore-based responsibilities at P&O Nedlloyd before joining Maersk Line in 2006.

His international experience includes positions in the United Kingdom, India, Denmark, Spain, Singapore, and South Africa.

Furthermore, Nijhof successfully served as the Line Representative in Maersk Line and MSC’s 2M Vessel Sharing Agreement.

He also supervised the Terminal Partnering programme at Maersk Line, which intended to streamline port stays and reduce waste by encouraging collaboration between Maersk Line and terminals.

Nijhof joined APM Terminals as Head of Operations Execution – Global Operations in 2020, situated in the company’s headquarters in The Hague.

Regarding his appointment, Nijhof expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to lead ACT.

He stated: “I am truly honoured to assume the CEO role at Aqaba Container Terminal. Leading this exceptional team, continuing ACT’s growth and development, and contributing to Aqaba’s future vision is a privilege.

“Together, we will strive to achieve new milestones in our aspirations of becoming a green trade hub for Jordan.

“We will focus on delivering an unparalleled port experience, fostering community prosperity in Aqaba and its surroundings, and further solidifying ACT’s position as the leading trade hub in the Levant region and beyond. I am extremely confident that our team will achieve great things.”

In June 2022, ACT laid out new ambitious decarbonisation targets and a detailed plan to meet its 2040 net-zero aim.
