Abu Dhabi Ports has launched the third annual Truck Drivers Safety Campaign to promote safe driving behaviours among port users.

The week-long campaign titled ‘Be Aware & Drive with Care’ being held at Khalifa Port from April 24 to 26, 2016 and at Zayed Port on April 27 and 28, will impart safe driving tips to around 2,000 people who regularly drive inside the port premises.

The campaign in partnership with Borouge, Abu Dhabi Terminals (ADT), and Grand Mills; has the involvement and support of Abu Dhabi Police, Emirates Traffic Safety Society, Emirates Driving Company, National Security Institute, the Department of Transport (DOT), Medeor Hospital, Life Line Hospital (LLH) and DULSCO.

As part of Abu Dhabi Ports’ commitment towards safe port operations to ensure the safety of its staff (customers and visitors), the campaign aims to pre-empt traffic incidents inside the port premises and beyond.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “This awareness drive is one of the most important events in Abu Dhabi Ports’ calendar as it has already made a positive impact on the road traffic safety standards in our ports. This is part of our proactive approach to ensure the safety of everyone using our port services.

“The elaborate arrangements and huge resources made available for this campaign highlights our conviction that awareness is the key to safety, which is our top priority.

Martijn van de Linde, CEO, Abu Dhabi Terminals, said: “With more than a thousand trucks and cars entering Khalifa Port Container Terminal on a daily basis, Abu Dhabi Terminals has a strong commitment to keeping the roads safe and foster a safe driving culture.

“We place the highest priority on the health and safety of our workforce and the people that use the port, and we are proud to join forces with our strategic partners to raise awareness about this important issue and maintain our excellent safety record.”

The drivers will have a chance to attend a free-health screening offered by Medeor Hospital and LLH Hospital, and to experience the driving simulators of Abu Dhabi Ports, and Emirates Driving Company (EDC).

National Security Institute’s (NSI) Community Safety Simulation Training Trailer will offer guidance on safety and emergency preparedness during the campaign. Borouge and Abu Dhabi Terminals will give tips on forklift safety.

PTI is due to host its own simulation Terminal Automation & Training Conference in London on June 8, 2016.
