Mohammed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports has explained how Khalifa Port Container Terminal plans to grow with demand to reach a capacity of 15 million TEU and handle 35 million tons of general cargo.
Al Shamisi has detailed how the self-proclaimed “master developer of ports” is achieving year-on-year growth and is expanding to more than 55 locations around the world.
One of the ways its ports will be creating efficiencies is through technology such as the Maqta Gateway, a single window for customer transactions that can manage customs, food control, terminal operations and marine services under one system.
Abu Dhabi Ports was recently in talks to lease land within the Khalifa Port Free Trade Zone (KPFTZ) on behalf of five Jiangsu companies for US$300 million and may also be making moves to capitalize on Africa’s exports to Asia.
The port operator has also shown its willingness to be involved in global initiatives after taking part in the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Day of the Seafarer. Watch its video below:
