Associated British Ports (ABP) has announced its new sustainability strategy, Ready for Tomorrow (RFT).
The strategy was launched on 28 February.
RFT identifies five focus areas for action for ABP: net zero, air quality, biodiversity, waste, and water management.
This strategy is backed by the company’s plan to invest approximately £2 billion ($2.4 billion) in decarbonising its operations by 2040.
According to ABP, each focus area has a programme of action to achieve its respective targets.
ABP will continue to develop its offshore wind manufacturing and support hubs in the Humber and East Anglia, as well as more than doubling its own green power generation to help reach its decarbonation target.
ABP’s future projects includes transformational developments in South Wales, The Solent, Humber and East Anglia.
These projects will cover floating offshore wind, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, industrial decarbonisation, and alternative fuels.

Nick Molho, Executive Director of sustainable business organisation Aldersgate Group, said: “The launch of ABP’s sustainability strategy marks an important moment in the UK economy’s transition to net zero emissions.
“Decarbonising ports is not only important in itself, but it is also essential to support the decarbonisation of other key parts of the economy such as energy generation, shipping, and heavy industries like steel,” Molho added.
The announcement comes less than a week after ABP became the first ports group in the world to be approved by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) to act as a training provider for IEMA courses.
