The Port Authority of València is restoring El Grau Vell Beach, part of the Marjal dels Moros wetland in Sagunto, using material dredged from the Port of Sagunto.
The Port Authority of València and the Valencia Coastal Authority are collaborating on the restoration, which sits within a protected site under the Natura 2000 Network.
Following the characterisation of the material to be dredged at the Port of Sagunto, the Port Authority of València submitted a report to the Valencia Coastal Authority (Demarcación de Costas de Valencia, DCV), the competent authority on the matter. The DCV subsequently requested that part of the characterised material be used for beach nourishment.
The Port Authority of València is now procuring a technical assistance service to ensure compliance with applicable procedures and environmental requirements, and to prepare a detailed design for the dredging, transport and beach nourishment works.

Valenciaport has committed to carrying out the dredging, transport and placement works required to restore the southern section of El Grau Vell Beach, covering approximately 1.2 kilometres (km).
The material will be sourced directly from dredging operations at the Port of Sagunto, linking the port’s operational maintenance work with a coastal restoration project outside its own boundaries.
The initiative involves coordination between the Port Authority of València and the Valencia Coastal Authority, with the technical design phase to determine the timeline for the dredging and nourishment works.
