Valenciaport has reported a 7.77 per cent increase in import container traffic during January, whilst export TEUs dropped 8.61 per cent.
These figures, combined with a 2.98 per cent decrease in empty container management, resulted in a total of 403,730 containers handled during the first month of the year, 3.93 per cent less than in the same month last year.
Similar trends were observed with non-containerised cargo: increases in liquid bulk traffic (+17.23 per cent) have not been enough to offset declines in iron and steel (-29.59 per cent), fertilisers (-41.40 per cent) and vehicles and parts (-4.41 per cent).
In total, 5.77 million tonnes passed through the docks of Valenciaport in January 2026, 7.84 per cent less than in January 2025.

The figures provided by the Valencia Port Authority Bulletin show similar imbalances in international traffic.
Among Valenciaport’s four main partners (China, Italy, the US, and Turkey), exports to the Asian giant fell by 2.11 per cent in January, while imports grew by 17.55 per cent.
Regarding Italy, both types of trade fell: exports by 26.47 per cent and imports by 7.74 per cent. Sales to the US fell by 26 per cent, but purchases rose by 76 per cent. While in relation to Turkey, exports to this country rose by 61 per cent, but imports fell by 15 per cent.
The number of ships that worked in January at the docks and terminals of Valenciaport (592 units) was 6.47 per cent higher than those that did so a year ago.
