The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has approved a 25-year administrative concession for the construction and operation of a renewable fuel plant at the Port of Sagunto.
The concession has been awarded to FIVE NEXT USEOIL SOLUTIONS, SL and UCO TRADING SPAIN, SL. The project will involve an investment of €20 million ($23.2 million) and occupy 27,800 square metres at South Pier 2.
The facility will handle the collection, storage, preparation, treatment and processing of waste fats, including used cooking oil and animal fats.
The processed materials will be used to produce advanced biofuels through a biomass conversion process.

APV’s Board of Directors also approved two authorisations for the supply of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to ships by tanker at the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia.
The six-year concessions have been awarded to SHELL WESTERN LNG BV and AXPO IBERIA, SL. Valenciaport said the use of alternative energy sources forms part of its Net Zero Emissions Plan, which covers the ports of Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia.
The Board also granted TERMINAL MARÍTIMA DE GRANELES DE SAGUNTO, SL a six-year licence to provide loading, stowage, unloading and transhipment services at the multipurpose terminal in Sagunto.
CSP LOGITREN SA has also been authorised to provide rail switching and related train operation services for three years at the ports of Valencia and Sagunto.

The Board was also updated on Valenciaport’s latest traffic performance, with rail activity continuing to grow despite softer overall cargo volumes.
Between January and April, Valenciaport handled 1.28 million tonnes by rail, up 20.42 per cent compared with the same period in 2025. Rail container traffic reached 97,155 TEU, an increase of 21.69 per cent.
This contrasted with a decline in total cargo volumes in April, when Valenciaport terminals handled 6.85 million tonnes, down 4.38 per cent year-on-year. Container traffic for the month reached 500,604 TEU, a decrease of 2.57 per cent.
Across the first four months of the year, Valenciaport handled 25.5 million tonnes of cargo, down 3.60 per cent, while container traffic rose slightly by 0.27 per cent to 1.81 million TEU.
China remained Valenciaport’s leading trading partner, with trade exceeding 3.3 million tonnes during the period, up 23.78 per cent. Container traffic with China reached 308,206 TEU, an increase of 25.25 per cent.
