Türkiye’s first intermodal terminal, Railport, has officially commenced operations, marking a major milestone for the Turkish logistics sector and the Port of Duisburg.
Located around 130 kilometres east of Istanbul, the facility is already handling freight trains, containers, trucks, and filling its high-bay warehouses.
Railport is a joint venture between duisport and Turkish logistics group Arkas, representing the largest foreign investment in Duisburger Hafen AG’s history.
Arkas contributes local expertise, while duisport brings international networks and experience.
Markus Bangen, CEO of duisport, said: “The Republic of Türkiye is a key hub for supply chains between Europe and Asia. Railport establishes a strategic bridgehead for international trade, strengthening global network stability and supporting both German industry and the Turkish market.”

Railport, developed on a 265,000 square metres (m²) site, pioneers intermodal operations along the East–West corridor, offering both rail and road options and connecting Türkiye’s industrial heart to global trade routes.”
Situated in Kartepe, Railport links directly to industrial centres, ports, and transport networks of the Marmara region.
Connections to the BTK line (Baku–Tbilisi–Akhalkalaki) and the Middle Corridor enhance access to Central Asia, China, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
Proximity to the Marmaray Tunnel ensures seamless freight movement across continents, supporting Türkiye’s growing role as a logistics hub amid nearshoring and network diversification trends.
The terminal can reportedly handle 125,000 trailers per year and provides on-site customs, storage, and CFS services for fast, cost-efficient operations.
