Ever since antiquity, ports have been the engines of growth, peace and prosperity. This is as true today as it was back then. Over 85% of global trade occurs via ports and seagoing vessels. In 2013, this included the trade and transport of 9.5 billion tonnes of goods and it is little wonder that maritime transport is the object of special attention all over the globe.
