Voith Turbo Marine, renowned for the Voith Schneider Propeller, the Voith Cycloidal Rudder and a number of ships’ concepts, presented the concept of the first Voith Water Jet propulsion system at the SMM in Hamburg in September.

In doing so, Voith Turbo Marine is following the strategy of extending its portfolio by further products in the area of ship’s propulsion systems, which it announced less than one year ago on the occasion of its participation in AIR.

The new sub-surface Voith Water Jet (VWJ) is being developed especially for ships with a speed between 25 and 40 knots.

It consists of a specially shaped jet, a rotor and a stator. The prototype has a rotor diameter of two metres, a jet length of three metres and an input power of 6.0 MW.
