Port-linked logistics operations in Spain and Italy could face disruption from planned labour action and infrastructure works affecting road freight, terminal activity and intermodal rail connections.
In Spain, the General Union of Workers (UGT) has announced plans for an indefinite road transport strike from 8 June. The action would cover goods transport and could affect cargo movements to and from Spanish ports if it goes ahead.
The union said the strike is linked to its demand for a written response from the Spanish government on the use of reduction coefficients that would allow professional drivers to access earlier retirement.
UGT has argued that the measure is needed due to the demanding nature of the profession.
Kuehne+Nagel reported that the strike could affect freight and supply chains across Spain, with potential implications for freight movements.

Italy is also facing several port and freight-related disruption risks in late May.
According to Kuehne+Nagel, a trade union meeting was scheduled at Trieste Marine Terminal on 21 May between 10:00 and 13:00. PSA-SECH Terminal at the Port of Genoa has also confirmed a trade union meeting on 27 May from 11:30 to 13:30, during which regular services may not be guaranteed.
Further pressure on port-linked logistics could come from planned infrastructure works by Italian Railway Network (RFI) on the La Spezia-Padova route on 25 and 26 May.
The works are expected to affect intermodal connections along the corridor.
