Overall throughput at the Port of Tomakomai reached 228,758 TEUs in 2025, including feeder traffic, marking a 2 per cent decline on 2024, according to preliminary figures from the Tomakomai Port Authority.
International container shipments totalled 175,551 TEUs over the year.
Exports amounted to 85,065 TEUs, down 1.5 per cent, while imports reached 90,486 TEUs, a decrease of 1.3 per cent.
Feeder vessel containers accounted for 26,865 TEUs outbound, down 6.7 per cent, and 26,342 TEUs inbound, down 1 per cent, bringing total feeder volumes to 53,207 TEUs, a 4 per cent drop.

Domestic container traffic fell 14.1 per cent to 44,021 TEUs, bringing total container throughput to 272,779 TEUs, down 4.2 per cent.
Seaborne cargo volumes rose 1.7 per cent to 101.71 million tonnes. Exports grew 5.9 per cent to 1.38 million tonnes, imports increased 11.9 per cent to 16.6 million tonnes, deliveries out rose 2.1 per cent to 42.81 million tonnes, while deliveries in fell 2.5 per cent to 40.92 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, further developments in Japanese port operations point to greater inter-port coordination: Yokohama Kawasaki International Port Corp. announced a trial to transport empty containers by barge, aiming to improve logistics efficiency across the Keihin Ports of Tokyo, Kawasaki, and Yokohama.
