The Port of Oakland handled 181,356 TEUs in June, a 7.7 per cent increase on June 2025, as loaded cargo continued to outperform the wider volume trend.
Full imports reached 78,114 TEUs, up 11.1 per cent year-on-year, while full exports rose 9.3 per cent to 65,140 TEUs. Combined loaded container cargo totalled 143,254 TEUs, up 10.3 per cent on June last year.
Empty container volume slipped 1.1 per cent to 38,102 TEUs, continuing a trend of reduced repositioning through the terminal.
Jason Garben, Acting Maritime Director at the Port of Oakland, said: “June was a solid month for the port, with growth in both imports and exports. We’re encouraged by the continued strength in loaded cargo and remain focused on providing reliable, efficient service for our customers.”

Vessel calls rose to 81 in June, up from 77 in the same month last year, as terminal operators handled the additional throughput.
For the first half of 2026, the Port of Oakland has moved 1.11 million TEUs, down 2.5 per cent on the same period last year. The gap is attributed to lower empty container repositioning rather than weaker demand, with loaded cargo up 0.3 per cent for the six-month period.
The port said it continues to work with shipping lines, terminal operators and supply chain partners to keep cargo flows efficient, as retailers, manufacturers and California agricultural exporters sustain activity through the gateway.
