The Port of New York and New Jersey handled 835,845 TEUs in August, falling 0.9 per cent below the monthly record set during the pandemic cargo surge in August 2022.
This was the port’s second-busiest August ever, as businesses continued to bring in more products due to global trade volatility.
August 2025’s total was a 5.7 per cent increase from August 2024 and a 23 per cent rise from August 2019.
The Port of New York and New Jersey maintained its position as the second-busiest US port for loaded TEUs over the first eight months of the year.

The port has handled a total throughput of 6 million TEUs, a 4.1 per cent increase from the same period in 2024 and 21.1 per cent above the first eight months of pre-pandemic 2019.
Moreover this week, the Port of Los Angeles announced it is seeking proposals from interested parties to participate in the pre-development of Pier 500, a proposed new stand-alone marine container terminal along the Pier 400 Channel.
