The Port of Helsinki and Terramare Oy have signed a contract to refurbish the LJ6 quay at the West Harbour, worth approximately €23.9 million ($27.2 million).
The work forms part of a wider redevelopment of the West Harbour aimed at concentrating Tallinn ferry traffic in Jätkäsaari.
Construction is set to begin in July 2026 and finish in 2028, carried out while Finland’s busiest passenger port continues normal operations.
The contract covers demolition of the existing quay, dredging, the manufacture and installation of new quay sections, and the procurement and installation of quay equipment.

Ari Parviainen, Project Director for the West Harbour renovations at the Port of Helsinki, said: “This is a project that is exceptionally demanding from both a technical and logistical point of view. The port is operating as normal at all times, and there is a steady flow of passenger and freight traffic right next to the construction site.”
Terramare, the contractor selected for the project, has decades of experience in port, bridge and coastal construction across Finland.

Preparation work will begin in July 2026, with the main works in the quay area starting in August, once Tallink’s M/S Victoria I passenger-car ferry has been moved to the adjacent LJ8 quay.
