AMPORTS, Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) and Port Freeport have confirmed a new collaboration to route additional automotive volume through the Texas Gulf Coast facility.
The move adds weight to the port’s push to become a major hub for vehicle imports, exports and distribution.
The arrangement supports MMNA’s ongoing expansion of its US distribution footprint, aiming to get new Mitsubishi vehicles to dealers across the Gulf and Midwest more quickly and at lower long-term cost.
MMNA has worked with AMPORTS since 1983, running operations at the ports of Baltimore and Jacksonville; Port Freeport now becomes a third node in that network.
The port’s location near one of the largest automotive markets in the US gives Mitsubishi a logistical edge, cutting inland haul distances and tightening delivery timelines.

Under the collaboration, vehicles are received at the port by AMPORTS’ stevedoring teams before moving directly into on-site processing, where accessorisation and final preparation take place ahead of distribution, a setup intended to strip complexity out of the supply chain.
