The Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported that the explosion occurred about 1:40 p.m. local time.

While the ship’s crew and dock workers were unharmed, the explosion sent shock waves through several nearby corporate offices, according to the state-run Qilu Evening News.

As of 9 August, no severe casualties or injuries have been reported. Port officials are currently investigating the incident.

In September 2022, a container exploded at the Port of Crotone in Italy, resulting in the deaths of three seafarers.
