X-Press Feeders also recently made an initial payment of $3.6 million to the Sri Lankan government after the fire and the sinking of the X-Press Pearl.

Announced in July 2021, the operator of the container ship made the payment through insurer London P&I Club.

“Discussions are ongoing on the payment of further claims and all legitimate claims will be considered,” the company wrote in statement on 12 July.
