Part of the Chinese city of Wuhan has locked down after four confirmed positive cases of COVID-19.

Some 1 million residents have been locked down in the Jiangxia district on the outskirts of the city.

Events including group gatherings at restaurants, public entertainment venues, and public transport services will be suspended for the next three days.

Residents are urged not to leave the area during the three-day period and travellers have been told to avoid entry.

The news will come as more pain for shippers following months of disruption and delay to cargo flows as a result of lockdowns worldwide.

Hutchison Port Holdings Trust (HPHT) today highlighted that an increase in COVID-19 cases in Mainland China – such as Shanghai – have continued into Q2 2022 negatively impacting results.

The Port of Wuhan is the natural river port of the sub-provincial city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, People’s Republic of China.

The port lies at the confluence of the Yangtze and Hanjiang rivers.
