  • M/T Borgøy enters service following successful trial period

M/T Borgøy, the world’s first LNG-powered tug boat, has entered service at Statoil’s Kaarstoe Gas Terminal in Norway.

Designed by Norwegian-based Buksèr og Berging and further developed by Sanmar’s modern shipyard in Istanbul, she successfully completed her sea trials earlier this month before embarking on her maiden voyage last week.

By using LNG the tugboat is able to eliminate sulphur emissions and bring particulate matter emissions down to near zero, whilst reducing the discharge of CO2 and NOx by 26 percent and 80-90 percent respectively.

The engines, propulsion package and LNG system was delivered by Rolls Royce.
