  • TCV lights up new STS crane with LED technology

TCV Stevedoring Company SA, Grup TCB’s container terminal in Valencia, has installed the world’s first port crane lit entirely with LED technology.

The crane, a new super post-Panamax gantry, is illuminated by LED floodlights at various heights of up to 68 metres, depending on specific lighting needs.

In a statement, TCV said that the LED technology, provided by Ingeniería de Aplicaciones Energéticas SL (EDAE), is in line with its environmental management system (EMAS) providing energy savings, better security and greater efficiency in the loading and unloading ships.

After pre-testing and the decision to adopt this solution for the STS crane, TCV has also incorporated LED lighting to other STS cranes and spreaders at a height of up to 40 metres. So far, TCV has installed a total of 58 400-watt floodlights and a number of 210 and 180 watt units, cutting annual CO2 emissions by as much as 94 tonnes.

TCV’s new 70-metre high gantry crane is capable of working with vessels with a capacity of up to 14,000 TEU.
