A Genscape Vesseltracker animation of AIS data shared on YouTube has revealed how the February 23, 2017, collision involving the LNG carrier Al Khattiya off Fujairah, in the United Arab Emirates, took place.

The video (above) has now revealed that Al Khattiya was at anchor when it was struck by the bow of the tanker MT Jag Laadki. This resulted in the Al Khattiya sustaining damage to its hull and two ballast tanks.

A document from Port of Fujairah has confirmed that the captain of the MT Jag Laadki has been banned from commanding vessels calling at the port. A fine of nearly $22,000 was also handed down.

No injuries, pollution or damage to the ship’s LNG containment system were reported as a result of the incident.

Another collision in January saw the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier BW Maple, owned by Singapore-based BW LPG, and the oil tanker Dawn Kanchipuram collide.
