Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) has completed the Vorhafen Harbor Basin Deepening project and released a video to mark the occasion: 'Creating Space for Container Giants – Last Pile Removed'.

According to the Hamburg Port Authority, the deepening of the Vorhafen entry has improved ship access connection to the central port and larger ships will now have more space to maneuver in Tollerort. The width restriction of the Vorhafen Harbor Basin has also been raised from 32.3 metres to 40 metres.

This is where the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort occupies the smallest area of all container terminals in Hamburg.

HPA has another development plan taking place that is inviting organisations from all sectors to contribute ideas for a futuristic development of Steinwerder-Süd, a 42-hectare-sized area in the centre of Port of Hamburg, through an international competition with a grand prize of €100,000 and awards of €50,000.

The Port of Hamburg recently released its smartPORT TV outlook for 2017 in a new 360 degree video.
