Wärtsilä and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) have agreed on the sale of the Trieste production facility.
On 1 August, 255 personnel and the production facility were transferred to MSC, with the other buildings and assets being transferred later this autumn.
The yearly cost reductions and transformation expenses are expected to align with the strategy released in July 2022.

The majority of the transformation costs are classified as Items Affecting Comparability in 2022-2024, with savings obtained in 2024.
While Wärtsilä’s production activities in Trieste have already been ended, the company stated that the city will continue to be an important location for the company’s R&D, sales, project management, sourcing, service, and training.

Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä’s Marine business, stated: “With this transaction, we are now able to increase clarity to the transferring employees after a period of uncertainty. Wärtsilä in Italy will continue serving our customers through our expert teams in Trieste, Genoa, Naples and Taranto.”
In July, Wärtsilä signed a 16-year Lifecycle Agreement with Seapeak Maritime (Glasgow) Ltd.
