Wan Hai inaugurates new 3,000 TEU boxship

Wan Hai Lines has held a ship naming ceremony for containership WAN HAI 331 at CSBC Corporation, Taiwan.

This is the first vessel in the series of 3,000 TEU containerships built by CSBC Corporation.

The containership will be delivered in April 2023 and deployed in the Asia trade service.

The new 3,000 TEU series containership is designed with a length overall of 209.8 metres, a breadth of 32.8 metres, a draft of 11.2 metres and a maximum cruising speed of 20.2 knots.

The vessel is equipped with a full balanced rudder with twisted leading edge and asymmetry rudder bulb, as well as Sea Sword Bow (SSB) – which is expected to reduce ship water resistance and achieve the highest level of requirement for EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) phase III in advance, reported Wan Hai.

By installing environmental protection equipment including part load tuning and the EGB (Exhaust Gas Bypass) system, the shipping company aims to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

As for the safety aspect, the 3,000 TEU series has obtained “SMART(INF)” certification which uses various monitoring systems and communication equipment to collect data on the voyage and equipment operation.

The ship design also meets the requirements of American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Class for CSC and CLP-V notation.

It is also equipped with lashing bridge on deck to resist rough weather and strengthen the ship’s stability to maximise safety in the company’s container transportation service, Wan Hai reported.

This ceremony comes a month after Wan Hai Lines held a ship naming ceremony for the WAN HAI A09 vessel.

More recently, Wan Hai was at the centre of a legal dispute after the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) levied a fine against the company for $950,000.
