Wallenius-SOL, the new European carrier launched by Wallenius and Swedish Orient Line (SOL), has released design images of its new fleet of ultra-large ice-class liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered RoRo vessels.

The vessels, according to a statement, have been designed by KNUD E. HANSEN and built by Chinese shipbuilders Yantai CIMC Raffles Offshore Limited.

The design development stage of the vessels saw Willenius-SOL and KNUD E. HANSEN work closely together in order to meet the “unique design criteria and operational requirements of Wallenius-SOL”.

The 1A Super ice-classed vessels will be 242 meters in length and have a deadweight capacity of 27,000 tonnes.

Furthermore, they will be the first Mega-RoRo vessels in the world to be powered by LNG. This will see them eliminate particle emissions and cut their carbon footprint while at sea. During port calls, the vessels will run on green electricity from shore connections or LNG.
