According to Marine Insight, marine pilots perform one of the most important jobs in ensuring that ships are navigated to ports safely.
The process of boarding a ship from a helicopter can clearly be dangerous, especially during rough weather; however, this is the most feasible alternative to using pilot boats, which may have difficulty transporting pilots in choppy seas.
