A video released by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) emphasises the importance of attracting more women into the shipping industry, not only to facilitate further gender equality but also to upscale the workforce.
The video also celebrates the positive effect women have had in the industry in recent years.
PTI previously reported the first female quay-crane operator to be recruited at Khalifa Port.
The video includes a review of the ‘Maritime Women: Global Leadership’ conference which was hosted by the World Maritime University (WMU) in 2014 in Malmo, Sweden with the aim of discussing the advancement of women in maritime professions.
As a result of strategic recruitment efforts and donor support, 744 women across 93 countries have graduated from WMU and are filling important maritime roles.
