A bulk carrier has crashed into the stern of a berthed containership in Kaohsiung Harbour in Taiwan.

In a video released on June 19, the Taiwan-flagged bulk carrier ‘China Steel Innovator’ hits the Evergreen Panama-flagged vessel ‘Ever Laden’ from behind while manoeuvring.

The footage also shows a tug trying to stop the bulk carrier from hitting the ship.

As of June 19, 10:00 UTC, vessel traffic sites have reported the vessels as moored in Kaohsiung City.

Both ships’ hulls and the tug have sustained damage.

According to the Taiwan newspaper Apple Daily, which revealed the images and video of the incident, the bulk carrier dropped its anchor to try avoiding the collision.

The newspaper has also reported that there were no casualties.

Underwater inspections of the ships and an investigation to establish the cause of the collision is currently underway.
