Video footage has captured the moment a bulk carrier crashed into a historic 18th century waterfront mansion on Bosphorus strait in Istanbul, Turkey, after its rudder became stuck.

The Vitaspirit, a 225-meter-long Malta-flagged vessel built in 2001, closed the strait after crashing in the Hekimbaşı Salih Efendi mansion in the Anadolu Hisarı area on April 7, 2018, at around 4pm local time.

There have been no reports of injuries or environmental threats since the crash near the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, which has mansions along its banks that date back to Ottoman empire.

The vessel ship was heading to Ukraine from Egypt.

Over 50,000 vessels, including tankers carrying highly flammable oil, pass through the Bosporus every year.

The last major accident in the strait was in 2003 when a Georgian-flagged vessel ran aground, resulting in a spill of 480 tons of oil.
