Alliance partners Maersk and MSC, the two largest container shipping companies, got a bit too close at the weekend when their vessels almost had a major collision at the Peruvian port of Callao.

A video released on March 26, 2018, has captured the moment the MSC Shuba B, a vessel of 11,000 TEU, catches itself on the Laura Maersk, a 4,258 TEU ship, when a manoeuvre goes wrong.

Tugs intervened, avoiding a more serious collision by pushing the Laura Maersk away from a direct hit on the MSC Shuba B.

A Port Technology technical paper focused on the MSC Flaminia fire, which brought into focus the problems that arise when a ship in need of assistance seeks a place of refuge

According to reports, both vessels sustained a minor amount of damage, but were able to leave and travel along the West coast of South America for their next port calls on March 25.
