A video released recently by global terminal operator APM Terminals gives a tour of its new Maasvlakte II site.
The terminal will soon have custom-built cranes that will move containers automatically and in order to be efficient, a lot of machinery will be required to move containers from the ship to the quay and back again.
Another key development at Maasvlakte II is double cabling which prevents network failure whilst a crane is loading and unloading a ship.
This is done by using fibre optic cables, with one cable containing 144 glass fibres, enabling 144 pieces of equipment to be connected to the network.
