Victoria International Container Terminal (VICT), International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI)’s fully automated container handling facility in Australia, has received legal approval to execute 14.4 rural tailgate inspections.
The clearance follows a recent policy expansion by the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, which expands the scope of sea freight containers eligible for inspection under Approved Arrangement class 14.4 – Rural Tailgate Inspection.
The tailgate inspection is a biosecurity strategy designed to identify and manage hazards connected with imported marine containers.

VICT currently provides this service directly from its Webb Dock location. On-site inspections allow VICT to expedite the import process by avoiding the need for further container transfers, saving time and money for stakeholders in the Victorian supply chain.
For customs brokers, importers, and biosecurity sector players, VICT’s on-dock inspection solution removes the need to transport containers off-site for biosecurity clearance.
Containers bound for rural Victoria can undertake the required biosecurity inspections at VICT, allowing for faster release and lower overall logistics costs.
In September, VICT reported it had achieved 5 million TEU since opening.
