Valenciaport traffic grows as transshipment volumes fall
Valenciaport has reported a 4.72 per cent increase in import traffic and a 17.89 per cent rise in exports during the first five months of 2025.

Transshipment volumes showed signs of decline, with full transshipment containers dropping 0.95 per cent and empties down 17.31 per cent over the same period.

In May, total container throughput reached 526,814 TEUs, a 1.38 per cent decrease year-on-year (YoY), despite handling over half a million containers.

So far this year, 2.34 million containers have passed through Valenciaport terminals, marking a 4.6 per cent increase compared to 2024.

On a yearly basis, Valenciaport’s container traffic has grown 10.26 per cent, reaching 5.58 million TEUs.

Among trade partners, Algeria showed notable growth, with cargo tonnage rising 30.80 per cent and container volume up 60 per cent year-to-date (YTD).

The recovery of trade relations with Spain has positioned Algeria as Valenciaport’s fourth-largest partner by tonnage (over 2 million tonnes) and third-largest by container traffic (134,729 TEUs).

China and the United States remain Valenciaport’s top two trading partners, contributing 34 per cent of total traffic last year. Over the course of 2024, China remained once again in first position with 702,633 containers handled in 2024 and 7.91 million tonnes, followed by the US, with which 368,298 TEUs and 4.52 million tonnes have been exchanged.
