The Port of Valencia (PAV) has reported that China and the United States were its primary commercial partners in 2024, contributing 34 per cent of total traffic.
China remains once again in first position with 702,633 containers handled in 2024 and 7.91 million tonnes, followed by the US with which 368,298 TEUs and 4.52 million tonnes have been exchanged.
The Bulletin’s data were presented to the PAV Board of Directors on 12 February at its first meeting of the year.
Representatives from PAV explained that the main goods exported from Valencian docks to China are food, cars and their parts, wines and beverages, construction materials, paper and chemicals.
The port recieves the following items from Asia: machinery and tools, construction materials, autos and components, chemical goods, tobacco, cocoa, coffee, and spices.

With the US, the port noted that predominant cargo traffics are construction materials, machinery and tools, food, wine and beverages, and chemicals.
Saudi Arabia (+59.64 per cent) and Ukraine (+44.02 per cent) are the nations with the greatest rise in goods tonnage in 2024.
Algeria and Turkey have also improved their ‘statistical visibility’, with traffic (tonnes) increases of 24.88 per cent and 23.73 per cent, respectively, Israel had a growth of 25.22 per cent.
The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of València has access to this report, which states that the data from the port PAV’s Statistical Bulletin for 2024 reveals that a total of 80.6 million tonnes of products entered and exited Valencian docks, 5.11 per cent higher than in 2023.
The number of containers has also increased, reaching 5.47 million TEUs (6.1-metre-long containers), representing a gain of +14.15 per cent: cargo traffic (export) has stayed unchanged (+0.13 per cent), offloading (import) has increased by 10.60 per cent, and marine transit has increased by 18.77 per cent.

The Bulletin also breaks down the accumulated data for 2024 by sector of activity. The iron and steel and construction materials sectors have maintained similar management figures to those of 2023.
The non-metallic minerals sector (+33.13 per cent), fertilisers (+4.19 per cent), chemical products (+9 per cent) and agricultural, livestock and foodstuffs (+2.48 per cent) have increased their traffic. The energy sector fell 40.41 per cent.
In terms of rail travel, the number of containers transported by train declined by 3.26 per cent, and when we consider the overall quantity of products that have entered and exited the Valencian docks, rail transport accounts for 6.67 per cent of total movement.
The Bulletin also reveals that Valenciaport’s RoRo traffic (maritime RoRo services) was 3.44 per cent greater in terms of tonnes than in 2023, as well as in terms of containers, which increased by 13.65 per cent.
Intermodal transport units (IULs) increased by 4.46 per cent in 2024. Likewise, 579,401 automobiles entered and exited the Valencian docks (-9.91 per cent).
In December 2024, PAV confirmed the arrival of the first train on its railroad since the cut-off low began.
