Montecon S.A., a terminal operator located in Montevideo, Uruguay, has added a third Liebherr LHM 800 mobile harbour crane to its fleet.

Liebherr Maritime Cranes has already delivered two mobile harbour cranes to the Montecon container terminal, the largest user of LHM 800 equipment in the world.

Following an order from Montecon at the end of November 2018, the third LHM 800 crane will begin operating at the Port of Montevideo in 2019.

Montecon ordered their first giant mobile harbour cranes from Liebherr in 2015, due to an increased demand for efficient mobile container handling solutions, and both pieces of equipment were delivered in 2016.

In addition to this, Liebherr has had a long-term partnership with the Montevideo-based terminal operator Montecon for 18 years, increasing crane sizes at the terminal reflecting a growth in vessel size during that period.

With an outreach of 64 metres, the LHM 800 is able to service container vessels as wide as 22 container rows, as well hoisting and lowering containers at speeds up to and including 120 metres per minute.

Juan Olascoaga, General Manager of Montecon, commented: “We feel confident as we rely on the trustworthiness of Liebherr and all its staff, for they are strategic partners in the development of our business.

“Our mobile harbour cranes are doubtlessly our main fixed asset, and they determine the service level that we provide to our Customers. This is why Liebherr’s reliability and aftersales support are essential values to us.”

Andreas Müller, Sales Director of Liebherr Mobile Harbour Cranes, added: “We are thankful for the trust Montecon is showing with this new order of the third LHM 800.

“We will continue to put all efforts into fulfilling the expectation Montecon has towards Liebherr.”
