Hurricane Matthew hit the Bahamas overnight, causing extensive damage, with the death toll in Haiti rising to 10, with 16 deaths in total now balmed on the hurricane across the Caribbean.

Two million people in the US have been advised to evacuate from the coastal areas of Florida, Georgia and South Carolina as it looks to be strengthening from a category 3 to category 4 hurricane.

Now heading northwest towards the Florida coast, it could either make landfall or turn eastwards into the Atlantic.

Should it reach Florida, Matthew would be the first major hurricane to reach the US mainland since Wilma in 2005.
