  • Unifeeder & Eurogate form alliance to reinforce intermodal & short-sea links in Hamburg

Unifeeder, one of Europe’s major feeder and short-sea operators, has chosen the Eurogate terminal in Waltershof as its exclusive short-sea hub in the Port of Hamburg.

In a statement, Unifeeder said that the partnership will reinforce the link between short-sea transport operations at the Port of Hamburg and rail freight handling.

“This is the start of what we hope will be a long-term partnership,” declared managing director of Unifeeder Germany, Timm Niebergall.

“With as many as 20 departures a week, Hamburg is our biggest hub in northern Europe, with the highest departure frequency.”

The location of the Eurogate’s Hamburg facility was key to the decision, according to Unifeeder, as the Eurokombi intermodal rail station is located directly adjacent to the container terminal and guarantees short distances between ship and rail transport.

“Should our concept prove successful, we intend to extend the partnership with Eurogate to other locations,” added Niebergall.

“Bremerhaven is interesting as a gateway for transports from the northern Ruhr and the Emsland region. Naturally there is also the option to integrate Wilhelmshaven into our service network.”

“In the next few years we are looking to achieve growth together with Eurogate as a short-sea hub in Hamburg – and possibly also elsewhere.”
