Transped S.p.A. has bought a Konecranes Gottwald Generation 6 mobile harbour crane to increase its handling capacity and efficiency at Italy’s Venezia-Marghera port.
The order was placed in Q4 2024 and will be delivered in Q2 2025.
Transped has upgraded from its Generation 5 mobile harbour crane to its logical successor, the Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 Mobile Harbor Crane.
Mauro Marchiori, Executive Director of Venice Terminals di Venezia at Transped, said: “Transped handles more than 2 million tonnes of steel each year, so we need equipment that ensures precision, stability and high lifting capacity over long periods.
“With its extended working radius, this latest generation Konecranes Gottwald mobile harbor crane will significantly enhance our efficiency across different types of steel cargo.”

The Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7 mobile harbour crane is reportedly built with a higher crane classification, which allows for a longer service life – possibly up to twice that of its predecessor in some situations.
Transped has decided to outfit the mobile harbour crane with an environmentally friendly Konecranes hybrid powertrain. Ultracapacitor technology is used to store braking energy and release it when needed.
By decreasing the utilisation of the onboard diesel engine, ultracapacitors save fuel consumption and operating emissions.

Gino Gherri, Regional Sales Manager at Konecranes, stated: “Konecranes has a long history with Transped and they have seen how our mobile harbor cranes consistently perform at a high level. The ESP.7 crane combines the versatility and power that Transped needs for specialised steel handling in the industrial port environment.”
