Konecranes’ Executive Vice President, Mika Mahlberg, has told Port Technology that automation will eventually come to every terminal due to its affordability and suppliers’ readiness to develop it.

The interview with the crane specialist at TOC Europe 2017 focused on the advantages that automation has over conventional, manual lifting equipment.

Mahlberg listed safety, productivity and predictability as the main three factors pushing the adoption of automation forward.

He explained that automating terminals is saving lives, creating answers to how ports can beat competing neighbouring facilities and helping to forecast what might happen over days or even hours.
