Alphaliner has released its latest rankings of the top 10 container lines in which Maersk can be seen maintaining its lead in total TEU capacity.

Maersk’s total existing fleet capacity has actually fallen by close to 100,000 TEU in the last six months; however, its order book has increased.

German liner Hapag Lloyd, which was previously the world’s fourth largest container line, has now been overtaken by the Taiwanese Evergreen Line, and pushed into fifth place.

Evergreen has 750 TEU more capacity than Hapag Lloyd.

Although Cosco and China Shipping Container Lines are ranked as sixth and seventh, respectively, the recent green light for the pair’s merger could see both lines collectively taking the number four slot in the coming months.

Mitsui OSK Lines has dropped from ninth to eleventh position.
