Salalah Port’s expansion has reached the next big milestone after plans emerging from the port’s third phase of expansion have been unveiled and include three new container berths, new government berths, and a new approach channel, according to the Oman Daily Observer.

It was previously reported by PTI that the port authority was looking to hire a consultant to draft up the port’s 2030 vision.

The most significant part of the expansion is the enlargement of the existing Container Terminal through the design and implementation of Quays 7, 8 and 9.

The berths will be equipped with backland infrastructure and the selected bidder will design and oversee the implementation of a roughly 3.7-kilometre-long North Breakwater, whose primarily function is to protect the existing and future berths against long-wave energy responsible for moored vessel motion.

The approach channel is anticipated to be 300 metres wide and will be dredged to a depth of 19 metres to accommodate two traffic lanes.

APMT are also currently involved in the development of Salalah Port with plans to invest in more infrastructure and to expand free trade zones.

The total investment in Salalah Free Zone is anticipated to reach US$15 billion in 2028.
