Terex Port Solutions (TPS) has completed its largest retrofit service of mobile harbour cranes to date for Turkish terminal operator Mardaş Marmara Denizcilik Işletmeleri (Mardaş).
Mardaş chose to retrofit six of their Terex Gottwald Model 7 mobile harbour cranes to allow the operator to handle larger ocean carriers.
TPS, in partnership with Eksen Makina Servis Ticaret (Eksen), has adapted the geometry of each crane with regard to working radius, boom pivot point and viewing height for the crane driver. Adaptations included extending each crane’s tower by five metres and increasing the working radius from 51 to 54 metres. During the project, Eksen was responsible for assembly while TPS was in charge of commissioning the cranes.
The six converted Model 7 cranes, two GHMK 7608 variants and four GHMK 7408 variants, are part of an existing fleet of 11 Terex Gottwald machines, which Mardaş operates in its terminal in the Port of Ambarli, west of Istanbul.
The conversion of the cranes is already paying off for Mardaş according to the terminal operator’s general manager Galip Kendigelen, who said that since coming into operation the retrofitted cranes had vastly improved the flexibility of its fleet.
