Tampa Port announces development of reefer transload facility

  • On-dock transload and rail-served facility will connect Florida port with Midwest markets

The Tampa Port Authority has signed a letter of intent with Green Express (GX) for the development of an on-dock transload and rail-served facility connecting the Floridian port to the Midwest market.

The new GX express service, to be operated by CSX Transportation, is a railroad which will provide two dedicated express trains per week, connecting Tampa and the Chicago/Kingsbury, Ind., area in just 56 hours.

In a statement, the port authority said in a statement said that the GX train will offer an array of refrigerated and dry products, as well as providing ocean carriers serving the region with a more efficient option,

“We are proud to be part of this great initiative, together with the Green Express group, and CSX Transportation,” said president and CEO of the Tampa Port Authority, Paul Anderson.

“This service supports our efforts to make the Port of Tampa a major gateway for the Florida market and beyond.”
