The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has launched ELECTRA, a battery electric container trucking pilot that puts six trucks on the road across five participating companies.
The Electric Container Trucking Program (ELECTRA) offers participating companies subsidised five-year leases alongside charging infrastructure, maintenance support, driver training, and access to a centralised software platform consolidating vehicle, charger, and utility data in a single dashboard.
The package is designed to remove the principal barriers to fleet electrification for container trucking operators.
Four trucks are already in service, with two more expected before year-end. For the first 12 months each vehicle is operational, the programme will collect performance and operational data to be shared with industry and government partners, providing an evidence base to inform wider adoption across the port and beyond.
ELECTRA sits within the broader Low Emission Technology Initiative, a joint funding partnership between the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority and the Province of British Columbia.

Total programme support is estimated at $3 million, drawn from Transport Canada, the Province of British Columbia, and the port authority, with additional funding accessed through BC Hydro’s EV Fleet Programme.
The five trucking companies now taking part are Aheer Transportation Ltd., Lally Bros. Holding Ltd., Simard Westlink Inc., TransBC Freight Ltd., and West Coast Freight Ltd., all registered within the port authority’s Truck Licensing System following a 2024 request for expressions of interest.
Execution and delivery were led by 7Gen, a turnkey fleet electrification partner covering vehicle, infrastructure, software, and carbon credit solutions.
7Gen carried out planning and site assessments in collaboration with BC Hydro to confirm adequate electricity supply before overseeing deployment of vehicles and charging infrastructure at participating depots. Charger maintenance and operational support continue on an ongoing basis.
