Dredging work at the Suez Canal is now 67.5% complete as water began to flow 400m into the Suez Canal’s junction.
Launched in August 2013, the 72km long canal aims to increase shipping traffic, according to the Cairo Post.
So far, the dry dredging work at the new canal has reached 169 million cubic metres, out of a total 180 million cubic metres, with the remainder anticipated to be complete by January 6, 2015.
The project’s timeline was scheduled by Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and is expected to end within 2015.
Chairman of the Suez Canal Authoritty, Mohab Mamish recently assured that the canal is tightly secured and announced that the Suez Canal Authority had made its highest revenues in six months.
