A new sonar image has been released by the UK Maritime Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) of the MV Cemfjord cargo ship that mysteriously sunk on January 2, 2015 off the northern coast of Scotland.

According to gCaptain, MAIB said that it has now completed the multi-beam side scan sonar and ROV surveys of the cement carrier.

The shipwreck was located a few days later lying on the seabed east of the Pentland Firth, which separates the Orkney Islands from Caithness in the north of Scotland.

The ship was sailing from Aalborg, Denmark to Runcorn, Cheshire in western England when it sank in severe weather.

All eight crew members that were aboard the ship were lost and no distress signal was ever received from the vessel.

There has been no trace of the eight missing crewmembers since the incident.
